About Us

Show/Hide this Topic : Overview Overview

WentWest was established in 2002 to provide the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program for general practice vocational training in western Sydney. The western Sydney region for AGPT extends from the east of Parramatta to the Blue Mountains and north to the Hawkesbury. WentWest has a team of experienced medical educators who are all in active general practice and assist registered doctors to become vocationally registered general practitioners, WentWest has strong links with the teaching hospitals in western Sydney.

Since January 2006, WentWest has provided division of general practice support services to more than 200 general practices in the local government areas of Auburn, Blacktown, Holroyd, and Parramatta. This includes the provision of support for topics such as immunisation, ATAPS, NPS, HMR, education and accreditation to name but a few.

Integrating the full spectrum of local general practice, WentWest is involved in university teaching through the Sydney University Department of General Practice at Westmead. WentWest is linked with the Hawkesbury-Hills, Nepean and Blue Mountains Divisions of General Practice through Board representation and joint activities. We have strong professional links with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and cater to the professional needs of general practitioners and general practices across a large part of western Sydney.

Our Partnerships
There are two independent medical practitioner associations within the area of western Sydney to which WentWest provides Division of General Practice services. WentWest values its relationship with these associations and any new associations that may form, as important for the future of general practice in this area.

Our Region
Western Sydney is an excellent region in which to train and practice. The population living within this area is highly culturally, linguistically and socio-economically diverse. The largest urban Aboriginal community in Australia lives within the region.

Western Sydney has the following attributes:

  • A vibrant and culturally diverse community
  • Dedicated and caring general practitioners
  • A wealth of resources for training and ongoing professional development
  • A long history of cooperative regionalised educational programs
  • A high population/doctor ratio offering diverse clinical experience and adequate patient exposure
