Cervical Screening

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and curable of all cancers. Regular Pap Tests every two years are recommended for women aged 20-69 years of age, which can detect and prevent up to 90 per cent of common types of cervical cancer. Pap Tests can be completed by the GP as well as a trained practice nurse.

WentWest provides support to General Practice through education, resources and practice support visits with regards to cervical screening in the following areas:

  • Recall and Reminder systems in Medical Director and Best Practice;
  • Item numbers and Cervical Screening PIP information;
  • Recording pap smears in medical software; and
  • Patient information resources.

NSW Pap Test Register

The NSW Pap Register is a secure and classified data base of women’s pap tests. The register also provides results and recall letters to patients. The register is operated by the Cancer Institute NSW as part of the Commonwealth and state-funded cervical screening program.

Services provided to health practitioners:

  • The Register offers details of a woman's Pap Test and follow-up test history to the woman's health practitioner to assist in her care. You are able to contact the register to get the test results and histories of your patients if you contact the Information Line on 1800 671 693 or (02) 8374 5692.
  • The Register can support your reminder service by providing a list of a health practitioner's patients who are overdue for a Pap test. To obtain this list, please fill out the following form and fax it back to the pap register.
