Practice/Service Incentive Payments (PIPS/SIPS)

The Practice Incentive Program (PIP) was developed to provide incentives that encourage General Practices to improve the quality of care provided to patients. PIP is a is a part of blended payment approach for General Practice these payments are in addition to other income earned by GPs. New Indigenous PIP payments have been introduced since 1st May 2010.

Access to the PIP is available only to practices that are fully accredited or new practices that are registered for accreditation and must be fully accredited within 12 months of joining.

Service Incentive Payments (SIPs) are made to practitioners working within a PIP practice for:

  • Completion of Asthma Cycle of Care for patients with moderate to severe asthma payable once a year;
  • Completion of Diabetes Annual Cycle of Care for each patient with diabetes, payable once a year;
  • For screening women between 20 and 69 years, who have not had a cervical smear within the four years;
  • For Aged Care Access Incentive payments to encourage GPs to provide more services in Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) if they meet Qualifying Service Levels (QSLs) for financial year.

WentWest can provide resources, education and practice visits on PIP and SIP and accreditation. WentWest can also provide support to General Practice through an accreditation process.

Currently PIP payments are made up to 12 elements. The practices situated in the WentWest geographical area many be eligible for the following categories:

  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Cervical Screening
  • Immunisation
  • eHealth Incentive (IM/IT)
  • After Hour Incentive
  • Quality Prescribing
  • Teaching
  • Practice Nursing Incentive
  • Aged Care Access Incentive
